The rush and bustle of the holidays are behind us and it is now time to get back to reality. My question for the New Year is, “How is your skin doing?” Take a close look in the mirror without makeup. Does the skin look soft with even color throughout, or are there areas of brown discoloration, excessive redness or perhaps some acne? Does you skin radiate health and vitality or has it become thicker and more sallow?

Unfortunately, our skin takes a great deal of abuse just from daily living. Sun, stress and pollution take their toll on our skin, and then there is aging! As we age, the turnover rate of our skin cells slows down. This means that the old cells accumulate on the surface of the skin and the new cells have trouble getting up to the top. This is why we see those signs of aging---fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, age spots, uneven skin tone, loss of elasticity and loss of natural hydration. In 1988 Dr. Zein Obagi began selling the Obagi system. I started using the system about 10 years ago after having dinner with a friend. Her skin looked fabulous! It was smooth and glowing. When I asked, she told me her “new skin” was the result of the Obagi system. I immediately began using the system and have been happy with my skin ever since.

Available at Daireds, the Obaig Nu-Derm System is a medically prescribed skin care system. It improves cell turnover to give you smother skin with decreased wrinkles. It improves uneven skin tones while promoting more uniform cells. It improves circulation to the skin resulting in more supple and healthy looking skin.

Some of you may find that you need an Obaji Blue Peel, also available at Daireds, to obtain the skin you want. I did because I had significant sun damage to my skin. The NuDerm system definitely helped, but I needed more, and the Blue Peel was the answer. The Obagi Blue Peel uses Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA). This is a more aggressive treatment and will require some down time. Not everyone will need this treatment, but it is good to know it is available.
