Long believed, and now proven, infant massage holds physical, mental and health benefits for both parents and children. And now, parents can learn infant massage techniques during a hands-on seminar offered the first Thursday night of each month by Daireds Salon and Spa Pangéa. The class, taught by a certified infant massage instructor, and focuses on infants (up to one year) and toddlers (children who have begun walking or up to two years of age.)

“Infant massage has been found to ease common problems such as colic, gas, dry skin and constipation, as well as help build a child’s social skills and sense of security,” said Odalys Alvarez, lead massage therapist at Daireds Salon and Spa Pangéa. “For parents, infant massage can aid in post-partum depression, relaxation, confidence building, developing sensitivity and overall parent-child relationships.”

Parents will learn different massage techniques, stretches and how to incorporate infant massage into everyday care, in addition to the benefits of massage for their children and themselves. Parents will also receive printed material reviewing the massage techniques taught in class and a bottle of massage oil for baby.

Registration for the class is $30 per family and reservations are required. Class size is limited to 10 families. Parents need to bring their infant or toddler for the training class, along with one pillow and one washable baby blanket for each parent attending. “The baby needs to be absolutely comfortable,” says Alvarez. “Parents should make sure their baby is well rested and well fed to ensure a positive experience.”
