There’s no magic pill that will melt away the fat and suddenly reveal rock hard abs by next weekend. Regular exercise and a balanced diet are really the key factors in achieving that amazing stomach, but there are a few secrets that can help flatten those abs before you have to put on that bikini next week.

Stay Away from Sugar Alcohol
Sugar alcohol is a sweetener or bulking agent, which is commonly found in sugar-free desserts, candy, and gum. Common sugar alcohols are mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, lactitol, isomalt, maltitol and hydrogenated starch hydrolysates (HSH).  Although they contain fewer calories than traditional sweeteners, sugar alcohols have been shown to contribute to gastrointestinal complications and bloating.

Ditch the Carbonation
Carbonation often leads to gas and an uncomfortable feeling of fullness. Carbonation can cause also result in gastrointestinal distress and inhibits sufficient hydration, while at the same time leading to an appearance of bloating. This means stay away from sodas and even carbonated water in order to decrease the appearance of belly fat.

Pass on the Salt
Sodium, which is found in salt, is known to attract and hold on to water. Excessive amounts of water retention can leave you feeling bloated. Avoid processed foods, such as crackers, canned soups, and boxed snacks. Remember fresh is best, followed by frozen, and then canned.

Add Fiber
You need dietary fiber to help prevent constipation and keep food moving through your digestive system. A buildup of food in your gastrointestinal tract can lead to a distended abdomen. Aim for five servings of fruit or vegetables per day. Avoid consuming juices, which have the majority of the fiber removed.

Make Water a Priority
One of the most common mistakes is to try to eliminate fluids from the diet, in order to appear thinner. Drinking plenty of water will keep you hydrated and also assist your body in flushing out toxins that cause bloating. You can divide your weight in half to determine the number of ounces of water you should be consuming each day.
